Documentary ‘The New Black’ examines growing support for marriage in black community

This month, a new documentary exploring the American black community and their views on the freedom to marry, debuted at the Los Angeles Film Festival. The documentary, The New Black, hones in on the campaign to win marriage for same-sex couples in Maryland.

Beebe and Jonathan Franqui have fallen in love and committed their lives together - they were excited to get their marriage license in Maryland, and they look forward to their ceremony in Florida. But their marriage deserves legal respect - respect that cannot happen until all couples have the freedom to marry, and until DOMA is overturned once and for all.

In 2006, Jennifer and Lexi Chapin-Smith held a wedding ceremony in Maryland in the traditional Quaker tradition. Now, in 2013, they've had a legal ceremony, one that reaffirms their love and commitment for each other.

Gov. O’Malley signs marriage referendum, allows MD couples to apply for marriage licenses

This morning, Governor Martin O'Malley signed the necessary documents that will allow same-sex couples in Maryland to begin applying for marriage licenses. The marriage licenses will take effect beginning January 1, 2013.
