Today, Freedom to Marry announced a 2013 drive to raise and invest $2 million through the Win More States Fund, with an initial goal of passing marriage bills in several states across the country - Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Minnesota, New Jersey, and Rhode Island.
New Jersey Senate President Sweeney takes stand against marriage referendum

This week, New Jersey's state Senate President Stephen Sweeney said he would not support a measure that would allow a referendum on the freedom to marry in New Jersey, and that he would not post a referendum bill to committee. Earlier this year, the NJ legislature approved a marriage billl, but Gov. Chris Christie vetoed it.
Cadet Chapel at West Point hosts first-ever wedding for same-sex couple

This weekend, Penelope Gnesin and Brenda Sue Fulton became the first same-sex couple to marry at Cadet Chapel, a landmark chapel at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. Fulton is a graduate from West Point, and she and Gnesin have been together for seventeen years.

Today the New Jersey Assembly voted 42 to 33 to pass A. 1, the bill that would extend the freedom to marry to gay and lesbian couples in the Garden State. The Assembly vote follows a 24-16 vote passing a marriage bill in the state Senate earlier this week.
